FAQ
To assist with making the best decision on chosing a school for your child, we have compiled the frequently asked questions below which may be helpful.
What curriculum does St. Andrews Sathorn follow? We follow the English National Curriculum throughout the school from our Early Years to Key Stage Two. Learning in Early Years (Nursery - Reception) is focused on structured creative play and interactive learning. Year One to Year Six follows the curriculum closely and all lessons are taught in English with exception of the Thai and French language classes.
When was St. Andrews Sathorn established? St. Andrews Sathorn was established in 2002 following the opening of the Green Valley and Sukhumvit 107 campuses. Sukhumvit 107 then relocated to its current site.
What accreditations does St. Andrews Sathorn have? St. Andrews Sathorn in accredited by the CfBT (Centre for British Teaching www.cfbt.com) and Sor Mor Sor (The Office of the Private Education Commission). We are also affiliated with ISAT (International Schools Association of Thailand).
How are students placed in their year groups? Placement of each child is determined from their date of birth. OUr cut off date for each academic yera is 1st September. This is applied to all students who enrol at St. Andrews, no matter what curriculum they may have been studying previously. Please see the Application Process page for more information.
What are the term dates for the school? The academic year starts on the last week of August and follows a three term calendar. Term 1 starts at the end of August and runs until the second week of December. Term 2 January until April (before the Thai New Year) and Term 3 starts from mid April up to early July. Do all students need to be assessed upon enrolment? Yes. We assess all students before enrolling students into St. Andrews Sathorn. For those applicants relocating from abroad, we require all recent school reports prior to enrolment. Assessments are then done during the student's first week of school.
Would there be any problems if English is not my child's first language? Here at St. Andrews Sathorn, we offer EAL (English as an Additional Language) to those who need support with the English language.
What are the class sizes at St. Andrews Sathorn? Our class sizes are kept small to benefit the child's learning environment. The maximum number of students we take is 25 per day in our Nursery Class (two joint classes with two teachers and two assistants) and a maximum of 20 per class from Kindergarten to Year Six.
What nationality are the teachers at St. Andrews Sathorn? All our teachers are English native speakers with exception of the Thai and French language teachers who are Thai and French respectively.
Does the school have extra curricular activities? Yes, we offer a wide range of after-school clubs to our students. A list goes out at the beginning of each term for club registrations. Activities vary from sports, arts and crafts, music and languages.
How do parents communicate with teachers? Parents can easily contact the teachers through the student contact book, email or through the school office. As we are a close knit school, parents also can meet and talk to the teachers before and after school.
What are the school hours? Students from Nursery to Year Three start lessons at 8.15am. Nursery students are usually dropped off and allowed to have some outdoor play time before starting at 8.30am. For Year Four, Five and Six, students start at 8.00am.
Does the school provide transportation to and from school? The school does provide this service. Details on pick up and drop off should be discussed with the Transport Manager beforehand.
Does the school provide lunch? The school provides students with a healthy snack in the mornings and lunch. We have a selection of Asian, International and Vegetarian food for lunch. Rice, a salad bar and a fruit selection is served daily. We also take great care with children who have severe allergies and make sure that canteen staff and class teachers are aware of such cases.
Are students required to wear uniforms? Yes. The shirts and blouses are a blue and white stripe. The boys wear navy shorts and the girls wear navy culottes with this. A blue and white PE kit is worn during the sports lessons and a navy swimsuit during the swimming lessons. Black shoes should be worn with the school uniform and proper sports trainers for PE. A hat is also required for outdoor play. Everything listed above is sold at the school except for shoes.
