The foreign language programme at St. Andrews International School, Sathorn provides instruction in French or Thai. We believe that to truly grasp a language it is important to have regular reinforcement.
From Year 3 (age 7) French is taught for an hour each week by our own teachers. Thai is mandatory for all Thai students and is taught by our dedicated Thai teacher. These lessons start from Kindergarten where they study for 50 minutes each week. In Reception they study for two 50 minute lessons and in Year 1-6 they study three 50 minute lessons. All aspects of a language are taught including reading, writing, speaking and culture.
Throughout the year, key holidays and festivals are celebrated as an integral part of the program with language students learning the cultural background and sharing their learning by presenting at school assemblies and other school events. Additionally, as teachers are native speakers, they can speak personally about relevant cultural events and aid the development of student understanding.
To give students further access to languages Mandarin classes are available for students from Reception to Year 6 and are available during our extra-curricular activities once a week.
Sathorn also welcomes students for whom English is not their first language. Our academically robust, comprehensive and high level English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme is tailored and resourced to provide optimal conditions for the academic and personal success of students.
